Step-by-step guide to download and open EPUB files on any tablet
How To

iPad/iPhone
The iPad has a native app called Books that handles EPUBs perfectly.
Download: Open Safari and navigate to the website where the EPUB is hosted. Tap the download link.
Locate: Once downloaded, tap the Downloads icon (the circle with a downward arrow) in the Safari address bar.
Open: Tap the file name. It should automatically open in the Apple Books app and be saved to your Library.
Alternative: If it doesn't open automatically, find the file in the Files app, long-press it, tap Share, and select the Books app icon.
Android
Android devices typically use Google Play Books as the default reader, but you must "upload" the file to your account to read it.
Download: Download the EPUB file using Chrome or your preferred browser.
Upload: Open the Files (or My Files) app and locate your EPUB in the Downloads folder.
Open With: Tap the file. If prompted, select "Upload to Play Books."
Read: Open the Google Play Books app. Your book will appear in the Library section under the Uploads tab (it may take a moment to process).
Tip: If you prefer a more traditional "offline" feel, download the app Lithium from the Play Store; it automatically scans your phone for all EPUB files and opens them instantly without an account.

Modern Kindle devices do not "natively" open EPUBs if you drag and drop them via USB. Instead, you must use Amazon’s conversion service.
Go to the Amazon Send to Kindle website.
Sign in with your Amazon account.
Drag and drop your EPUB file into the upload box.
Click Send. It will appear in your Kindle library wirelessly within a few minutes.
